Russian Strikes Cripple Ukraine’s Energy System
Nekrasov briefed reporters that Russian forces launched overnight assaults on the Dnipropetrovsk region, though authorities have since fully restored electricity to all affected consumers in that area.
Emergency crews in the Odesa region are racing against time to repair catastrophic damage inflicted by weekend strikes, with approximately 32,000 customers still trapped in darkness. The repairs continue around the clock as engineers work to restore service.
Russian forces systematically pound power facilities, leaving roughly 400,000 consumers without electricity every single day, Nekrasov reported. Border areas and frontline communities bear the brunt of these blackouts, with outage numbers swinging dramatically based on attack intensity.
"Russia continues to strike power plants as well as transmission and distribution facilities, which complicates and prolongs the recovery process," Nekrasov said, adding that repair crews are working constantly to keep the system under control.
The acting minister issued an urgent appeal to citizens in regions experiencing scheduled hourly outages: slash electricity consumption immediately. He urged households to avoid high-wattage appliances and transfer energy-demanding tasks to late evening before midnight whenever feasible.
Russian strikes have pummeled Ukraine's energy network repeatedly throughout the nearly four-year conflict, forcing nationwide rolling blackouts and emergency rationing protocols. The attacks have intensified during key periods, deliberately targeting generation plants and transmission networks essential to keeping the country powered.
