Canada’s PM Carney Heads to Munich Security Conference

(MENAFN) Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney will travel to Germany this Wednesday to participate in the Munich Security Conference, as Ottawa seeks to strengthen its defense and security partnerships in response to rising global uncertainty.

The Prime Minister’s Office said Tuesday: "To strengthen and expand Canada's defense partnerships, the Prime Minister, Mark Carney, today announced that he will travel to Munich, Germany from February 11 to 15, 2026 to participate in the Munich Security Conference."

During the conference, Carney will highlight Canada’s efforts to rapidly enhance defense readiness, including developing sovereign capabilities to protect the Arctic and NATO’s northern and western flanks. The statement added: "The world is in the midst of a rupture, and the rules-based international order we once knew is fading," noting that Canada is taking a "principled and pragmatic approach" to strengthen defense capabilities at home while diversifying economic and security partnerships abroad.

Carney will also meet with business leaders to promote Canada as a hub for global investment, particularly in critical minerals, energy, and advanced technologies. He remarked: “Nostalgia is not a strategy. We must see the world as it is, not wait for a world we wish to be. To that end, Canada is focused on building our defense capabilities – to strengthen our security, create greater prosperity, and reinforce our sovereignty."

Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand will join Carney at the conference, meeting with her counterparts and participating in panels on Arctic security, Ukraine’s sovereignty, and Canada’s defense partnerships, according to a post by Foreign Affairs Canada on X.

The three-day Munich Security Conference, one of the world’s leading forums on international security, will take place from Feb. 13–15 in southeastern Germany.
